Strongest Predictor of Hair Loss in Women is Martial Status

RSS

It is already been proven that hair loss in men is due to genetics, but what about women? Two new studies showed that hair loss in women is contributed by their lifestyle factors such as divorce or death of a spouse.

The studies were conducted by Dr. Bahman Guyuron, a plastic surgeon at Case Western Reserve University. They looked at only identical twins, because they are born with the same hairlines and any difference would be caused by environmental factors.

The researchers found that the strongest predicator of hair loss in women was their martial status while smoking, skin condition, and diabetes contributed to higher hair loss.

Other factors such as having a lot of money and kids, high blood pressure, and excessive sleeping pattern were linked to hair loss.  Those who drink coffee, had a happy marriage, and protected their scalp from sun exposure were less likely to have thinning hair.
