Compression Stockings
Compression stockings are used to support the venous systems of the leg. By decreasing compression, the stockings help promote circulation of blood and lymph fluid through the leg. Maximum compression is achieved at the ankle and decreases as the stocking moves up.
The Framingham study reports that 27% of American adults have some form of venous disease in their legs. It is estimated that 20-25 million American have varicose veins. Compression stockings are considered by many to be the first step towards therapy.
