Anti-Inflammatory…Cherries?
According to new findings at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland cherries have high anti-inflammatory compounds, the same as in aspirin.
These results suggest that tart cherries can someday be used as an alternative treatment for patients with osteoarthritis, exercise recovery, and dieting.
“The anti-inflammatory powers of tart cherries can make them a smart choice for healthy people too. In a number of studies, athletes who drank tart cherry juice before running a race or doing intensive strength exercises felt less pain afterward and bounced back faster than those who didn’t.”
Does this mean your doctor will prescribe a slice of cherry pie? Not likely. But cherries come in a variety of other forms to try from juices to dried. If you dare try a fresh tart cherry but be warned they do have quite a bite!
